Since July 2020 we have been offering rest and retirement livery for those equines who may be taking a break from ridden work due to injury and retired horses who are wanting to live out their retirement just “being horses”.

We have two herds, one for mares and one for geldings, where we take on a maximum of 5 horses.

Each herd lives out 24/7 in summer in large, safe and secure fields with plenty of grass and natural shelter.

Due to the nature of the heavy clay soil here at Glebe Farm, we bring the retired herds into large lose barns, deep bedded on straw, with a large outside area where we feed them large bale hay out of ring feeders during the winter months. This way they can keep moving with constant forage but without the challenge of mud.  

We perform daily checks, change rugs when needed and we can also give hard feeds/medication if required.

We  have a worming programme whereby we faecal egg count 3 times a year and worm with Equest Pramox in the winter to cover tapeworm and encysted red worm.

The herds are barefoot and we organise their routines trims with our wonderful farrier, Hugh, who comes every 8 weeks in summer and 10 weeks in winter.
